Zscaler 2023 Ransomware Report Shows a Nearly 40% Increase in Global Ransomware Attacks>
-on-the-rise The latest Zscaler 2023 Ransomware Report reveals a global spike in ransomware attacks in 2023, with groups from China, Russia, North America, and other countries claiming responsibility for high-profile cyberattacks. The report identified critical weaknesses in the security posture of many organizations, and provided guidance on how to address these gaps and prevent ransomware attacks. The report found that ransomware attacks tripled globally between February and April 2023, resulting in a record number of incidents. Countries in the EMEA region experienced the highest number of attacks, followed by North America, APAC, and LATAM. The most affected industries were healthcare, government, manufacturing, and logistics. In addition to the increase in the number of attacks, the report also found that attackers are becoming more sophisticated. For example, many of the recent ransomware campaigns relied on either an internal actor or a compromised system to exploit vulnerability in the victim’s security posture. This highlights the importance of implementing defense-in-depth strategies that address both technical and policy vulnerabilities. The report provides several key takeaways that organizations can use to protect themselves and their customers. These include raising employee awareness about ransomware, implementing strong passwords and two-factor authentication
