Recent studies have shown that UK boardroom directors and chief information security officers (CISOs) are increasingly aligned in their views on cyber risks.
These findings come amid a growing cyber security threat landscape, with the UK having faced a number of high-profile cyber attacks in recent years.
The findings, which come from a survey of 250 boardroom directors and 100 CISOs in the UK, demonstrate a clear understanding of the cyber risks posed to businesses operations and the need for mitigating measures to protect against them.
The survey also found that 89% of boardroom directors thought that data breaches posed a particularly significant risk to their organisation, while 95% believed that cyber risks would increase over the coming years.
Meanwhile, CISOs were more positive with 95% of them believing that their organisation had the right technical solutions in place to mitigate cyber security risks.
The survey revealed that boardroom directors’ overall awareness of cyber threats had improved from the previous year, with the share of directors who felt that data protection and cyber security was of utmost importance to their organisation increasing from 53% to 77%.
This increase in awareness by boardroom directors demonstrates an increased recognition of cyber risks, as well as a greater alignment between boards and their security teams.
It is likely that this will bolster cyber security defences even further as businesses recognise the need to be proactive in protecting their networks.
Although there is still a need for businesses to further improve their cyber security practices and defences, these findings indicate that UK boardrooms and CISOs are now more closely aligned in understanding the importance of cyber security.
This in turn should help ensure that organisations remain better protected from malicious attacks and data breaches.
