Critical Start’s Biannual Report Reveals Soaring Cyber Threats and Vulnerabilities in H2 2023>
The report from Critical Start Inc., a Dallas, TX-based provider of cybersecurity and managed security services, reveals a staggering 106% increase in cyber-attacks and vulnerabilities over the last six months.
With the shift to remote work due to the coronavirus, Remote Access Protocols and vulnerable IoT devices have become prime targets for attackers.
The report also revealed an increase of 183% in phishing attempts against businesses in the second half of the year, the highest seen since 2018.
Other highlights of the report;
• The average attack surface per enterprise increased by 192% when compared to the same period in 2020
• The volume of security alerts rose by 180%
• Drive-by downloads and automated application attacks increased by 1032%
• Application vulnerabilities, such as SQL injections and Remote Code Execution attacks, increased by 274%
• Cryptomining malware increased by 129%
• Ransomware continued to be the most dangerous threat, with 4,372 incidents reported in H2 2021, up 86% from the same period in 2020
The report highlights the need for organizations to invest resources into understanding the threats and putting the necessary security measures in place.
These include endpoint security solutions, multi-factor authentication, patching, network segmentation, DDoS protection, identity and access management, and network traffic monitoring.
In addition, businesses should also implement a comprehensive security strategy that covers physical, cyber, and personnel security.
These actions are essential to protect against the rising wave of cyber-attacks and vulnerabilities, as the threat landscape continues to evolve and grow more complex.
