Massachusetts Expands State Support for Local Cybersecurity
– Jule Pattison-Gordon
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has recently announced a new program to provide increased cybersecurity support to local state agencies.
The Cybersecurity Assistance Program, launched in mid-July, is designed to help local governments improve their cybersecurity capabilities and increase their capacity to protect data against cyber threats.
The program is an expansion of existing cybersecurity initiatives by the state and is intended to serve as a model for other jurisdictions.
Under the program, the state is offering several assistance initiatives, which are being provided by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
These include technical assistance to identify and address cybersecurity risks, training for local officials in the use of appropriate technical solutions, and assistance with incident response activities.
In addition, the state is also providing cybersecurity grants to enable local government agencies to purchase necessary technology and hardware that will help them protect against cyber threats.
This expanded state support for local cybersecurity efforts is a welcome development and demonstrates the commitment of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to ensure that its data and systems remain secure.
The program is an example of how states are beginning to take proactive steps to enhance the security of their networks and data.
By providing assistance and grants to local government agencies, states can help ensure that their sensitive data and other critical information remains secure.
