Sharp Europe Announces New Complete Print Security Service – Keypoint Intelligence
Info Trends – Rachel Dean
33% of SMBs did not have measures in place to secure printers, and one in five had been impacted by a printer security breach.
Senior Product Manager Ben Lake emphasized the hardware security features offered by Sharp to mitigate vulnerabilities.
These include the optional Bitdefender virus detection kit, previously announced for the Sharp BP series A3 MFPs, as well as the recently launched A4 devices (BP-B537WR and BP-B547WD).
The CPS offering from Sharp aligns with the core principles of NIST Cybersecurity:
Identify: A consultative-led security survey identifies print security risks and establishes a customized MFP security policy.
This policy can be preconfigured with over 150 settings before the devices’ delivery.
Protect: Sharp Remote Device Manager (SRDM) monitors the settings against the security policy, triggering alerts and automatically resetting any changes to ensure policy compliance.
Detect: Security information and event management (SIEM) technology, along with 24x7x365 monitoring, help detect potential threats.
Respond: Threats are assessed based on severity and attack profiles, and appropriate remote actions are taken to mitigate the risks.
Recover: Daily data backup to the ConnectWise cloud, including MFP settings, software, and configuration, enables recovery if needed.
This comprehensive approach combines existing Sharp services and solutions with ConnectWise’s 24x7x365 SIEM monitoring to proactively identify and respond to potential cyber threats.
