The banking industry was the most targeted vertical for Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) and application-layer attacks in Q3 2023, according to data from Lumen Technologies and ThreatX.
On September 21, a single banking customer experienced over 230 DDoS attacks, representing a significant increase over the daily average for the industry.
However, due to Lumen’s multi-layered DDoS mitigation approach and Rapid Threat Defense capability, the attacks were successfully mitigated, preventing downtime and potential damage.
The report also highlights a never-before-seen, four-vector combination of attacks attempted during the September 21 event.
Overall, the total number of attacks decreased in Q3 2023.
Additionally, the banking sector faced a high percentage of application threats, including attacks against authentication, making robust web application and API protection solutions crucial for the industry.
