A recent study conducted by Centripetal, a threat intelligence firm, highlights the impact of work-life balance on cybersecurity professionals.
The study found that many cybersecurity professionals have their off-the-clock free time disrupted by work, with 32% of respondents stating that work encroaches on their evenings.
Furthermore, even while on vacation, 90% of respondents admit to checking work emails and messages.
The study emphasizes the importance of creating a culture where employees can switch off without feeling guilty or pressured.
Maintaining work-life balance is crucial for reducing stress, improving emotional well-being, and increasing overall job satisfaction and productivity.
The report also reveals that security professionals often work more hours than they are paid for, with around 18% estimating they provide more than eight hours of unpaid overtime each week.
While loyalty to their organizations is a key driver of long working hours, inadequate staffing and increased cyber threats also contribute.
The study suggests that organizations can promote work-life balance by providing adequate tools, automating or outsourcing tasks, and reducing the burden on cybersecurity professionals.
Addressing work-related stress and burnout is crucial for maintaining a highly productive and effective cybersecurity workforce.
