Trail of Bits Spinout iVerify Tackles Mercenary Spyware Threat
Security Week – Ryan Naraine
iVerify, a startup originated from Trail of Bits, has introduced a mobile threat hunting platform designed to address iOS and Android zero-day threats.
The company has secured a $4 million funding round led by Mischief Ventures and is emphasizing its role as the first mobile threat hunting solution aimed at countering advanced surveillance spyware from mercenary hacking groups.
The company’s CEO, Danny Rogers, expressed that the mobile Threat Hunter product aims to offer comprehensive access to mobile devices, combining automated detection and expert analysis to scale mobile forensics projects.
Originally a consumer mobile app focused on identifying misconfigurations and patch shortages, iVerify has expanded into the enterprise market, offering tools to detect mobile malware threats and ensure adherence to security best practices.
In addition to identifying non-compliant devices in a mobile fleet, the threat hunter product alerts on suspicious artifacts and unusual behaviors associated with advanced mercenary spyware attacks. iVerify is targeting not only businesses facing mobile malware threats but also high-value targets such as VIP users in sensitive areas or journalists involved in sensitive investigations.
Rogers highlighted iVerify’s ease of deployment and its ability to swiftly identify non-compliant users, with the product able to be rolled out via email-based downloads or through SCIM, MDM, and SSO integrations.
iVerify promises comprehensive features for deep, always-on mobile forensic investigations, rapid data collection, on-device heuristics for identifying suspicious activities, and support from its team of security engineers and researchers for addressing detected threats.
