NCSC invites security pros to join the big leagues | Computer Weekly>
Computer Weekly – @alexscroxton
The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has launched Cyber League, an initiative aimed at creating a trusted community of security experts from the NCSC and the wider industry to collaborate on tackling the most urgent cyber threats facing the country.
Organisations that wish to participate in the Cyber League must be part of the cyber security or threat intelligence industry and have a substantial connection to the UK.
Up to three volunteers from each organisation will be admitted to the League, providing they have the relevant security experience and knowledge.
The NCSC said the Cyber League would complement its existing Industry 100 (i100) secondment initiative but is designed to be of value to those who may not be able to commit the time this programme requires, but still have experience and knowledge to share.
The initiative is seen as a positive step for the UK cyber security industry and a way to promote the sharing of skills and information.
The NCSC has centred collaboration between its in-house and GCHQ-backed expertise and the wider industry to help it meet the government’s goals around cyber security.
The new chief technology officer, Ollie Whitehouse, has said that moving forward, he would prioritise pursuing a clearer, evidence-based understanding of UK plc’s collective weaknesses and prepare for ‘when’ and not ‘if’ a big cyber event hits organisations, the UK, and the globe.
The NCSC and its US counterpart CISA have also brought together tech companies and governments to countersign a new set of guidelines aimed at promoting a secure-by-design culture in AI development.
The NCSC has also attributed a long-running campaign of cyber attacks targeting UK political processes to a group run out of Russia’s FSB intelligence agency, known as Star Blizzard.
Ahead of the annual festival of retail avarice, the NCSC is once again asking consumers to do the bare minimum to avoid falling victim to scams.
