India Inc is on a hiring spree for cybersecurity professionals as companies face increasing data breaches, evolving regulatory expectations, and the introduction of generative AI platforms that make security controls and processes vulnerable
Organizations are looking to strengthen their cybersecurity teams across various levels, seeking experts in threat intelligence, security operations, incident response, cloud security, network security, data archival, and compliance
Recent surveys by PwC and Aon highlight that cyber risks are the biggest threat facing organizations today
Companies like Wipro, HDFC Bank, and Zoho are actively hiring cybersecurity specialists to safeguard sensitive data, protect against cyberattacks, and ensure business continuity
The skill sets in demand include proficiency in programming languages and an understanding of computer networking, operating systems, and cloud computing
HDFC Bank is focusing on scaling up in areas such as digital, API, cloud, data protection, and cyber resiliency
API security is a key focus area for the bank, and they are looking to hire senior and mid-level professionals
Data from job matching and hiring platform Indeed shows a 7.5% increase in job postings for cybersecurity between April 2023 and April 2024) Bengaluru tops the list of Indian cities in cybersecurity employment, followed by Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Gurugram
Recruitment services firm Michael Page has seen a 35% increase in mandates for cybersecurity professionals at mid and senior levels since last year
Companies are hiring for positions such as CISO, data protection officer, cyber defense head, cloud security head, security architects/consultants, DevSecOps, OT security, and network security
Due to the limited pool of candidates with experience managing the complexity and scale of cybersecurity risks in India, companies are also tapping into expat talent from abroad, particularly from Big Tech, Big Data companies, or large multinational banks.
