Report: Organisations Have Endpoint Security Tools But Are Still Falling Short on the Basics
Tech Republic
Absolute Security’s 2024 Cyber Resilience Risk Index report, based on telemetry from millions of managed PCs, found that many organizations are failing to meet basic endpoint security and network access security requirements
The report revealed that top endpoint protection platforms (EPPs) and network access security applications are failing to maintain compliance with security policies 24% of the time, and EPPs are not even installed on nearly 14% of PCs that should be protected
Furthermore, organizations are falling weeks or months behind in critical patching, creating significant risk gaps
While patching times have improved, most industries still lag behind their own patching policies
The education and government sectors have the worst patching records, taking 119 and 82 days, respectively, to patch Windows 10 software in 2024
With the anticipated “AI replacement wave” in the enterprise PC market, only 92% of enterprise PCs currently have sufficient RAM capacity (32GB) for AI
The deployment of AI-capable PCs could divert resources away from critical IT and security priorities, potentially leaving gaps in security and risk policies
To address these issues, Absolute Security recommends that organizations:
1) Deploy solutions that monitor, report, and repair endpoint and network access security applications in near real-time.
2) Add a layer of visibility over software and hardware assets to ensure they are operating as needed, beyond standard vulnerability management platforms.
3) Maximize efficiency across IT, security, and risk procedures to minimize the impact of the AI PC fleet transition
The report emphasizes the importance of properly functioning security and risk controls on endpoint devices to realize the advantages of AI PCs, such as reduced risk of data theft and leaks through localized data control.
