Japan drives for infosec self-sufficiency • The Register
– Simon Sharwood
On October 3, 2023, Japan announced that it had achieved its goal of becoming self-sufficient in information security (cybersecurity).
This was achieved through a concerted effort on the part of the Japanese government to foster research and development in the field, as well as an increase in government funding and incentives for private investment in the sector.
As a result, Japan is now able to provide its citizens with cybersecurity services that are designed and built entirely within its borders.
This is a major milestone for Japan and a sign of its determination to become a global powerhouse in the field of cybersecurity.
It also represents a shift in the country’s focus from its traditional industries, such as electronics and automotive manufacturing, to the more modern and sophisticated technologies that have come to dominate the world.
The announcement is also in line with Japan’s broader strategy to become more attractive to investors and to protect its assets from digital threats.
Japan is no longer content to simply rely on foreign countries for its security, and the move to become self-sufficient is a strong indication of how it plans to protect its own interests in the future.
