With the rising threat of cybercrime, hackers have been increasingly using messaging and calling services, such as WhatsApp, to exploit user privacy.
With the latest update, WhatsApp is rolling out a “Protect IP Address In Calls” option to protect user data from being recorded and shared on iOS and Android devices.
This feature ensures that user IP (Internet Protocol) addresses are not recorded by the app.
By enabling this “Protect IP Address In Calls” option, users will be providing an extra layer of protection against hackers and malicious entities from tracking their activities and data movements.
While this new security feature is currently rolling out as an opt-in on both Android and iOS, users must manually turn it on in order to use it.
To do so, users will need to launch WhatsApp, select the “Settings” tab, enter “Data and Storage” and choose the “Protect IP Address in Calls” toggle, which would be available at the bottom of the page.
It is worth mentioning that WhatsApp’s efforts to ensure user security don’t stop with this new feature.
The messaging giant has also employed end-to-end encryption for all its messaging services, along with numerous other security features that are now available to WhatsApp users globally.
