EU Urges Swift DSA Governance for Improved Incident Response | Mirage News>
– European Commission
The European Commission has published recommendations for Member States to coordinate their response to the dissemination of illegal content, such as terrorist content and hate speech.
The aim is to ensure compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA) by Very Large Online Platforms and Search Engines.
The DSA establishes rules for a safe and trusted online environment while respecting fundamental rights.
Designated platforms are required to adopt mitigation measures for systemic risks arising from the dissemination of illegal content.
The Commission encourages Member States to designate an independent authority as part of a network of prospective Digital Services Coordinators to enforce the DSA.
The recommendations also propose an incident response mechanism and highlight existing powers to tackle illegal content.
The enforcement framework established in the DSA will apply fully after February 17, 2024.
