What Is A CISO’s Biggest Concern? Being Sued, Apparently
NY Breaking – James
New research indicates that CISOs worldwide are increasingly worried about the risk of being sued following successful cyberattacks against their organizations.
A report by Salt Security, after surveying 300 CISOs/CSOs across industries, highlights their primary concerns and challenges.
Key findings reveal apprehension over the unforeseen risks brought on by rapid digital transformation, especially in the healthcare sector where 90% of CISOs acknowledge such risks.
One of the pressing issues is the lack of skilled security personnel, with 40% of CISOs viewing this talent shortage as the sector’s biggest challenge.
This shortage is not only making it harder to defend against the sophistication of new security attacks but also intensifying the competition for recruiting qualified candidates.
On a personal level, nearly half of the CISOs surveyed express alarm over the possibility of being personally sued due to breaches, a concern attributable to the intense pressure of managing security in technologically advanced and often understaffed environments.
This has led to calls among these professionals for better insurance and assurances against personal liability.
Mike Towers of Takeda Pharmaceuticals highlighted the significant personal impact of these concerns, warning that without the right cyber tools, processes, and protections against personal risk, qualified leaders might shy away from taking on CISO roles.
The recent SolarWinds lawsuit by the SEC over alleged negligence concerning security illustrates the reality of these concerns and the potential legal ramifications for security leaders.
