Help Net Security – Mirko Zorz
OpenBAS is an open-source platform designed for organizations to efficiently plan, schedule, and execute various crisis exercises, adversary simulations, and breach simulations
It is compliant with ISO 22398 standards and is developed as a modern web application with a user-friendly interface and RESTful API
The platform features multiple modules, including scenarios, team management, simulations, communication verification, and encryption
These modules provide benefits such as collaborative workflows, real-time monitoring, detailed analytics, and feedback management
Unique in its comprehensive approach, OpenBAS allows for the simulation of both technical and contextual aspects of incidents
It enables teams to prepare for real-life scenarios by including components like handling journalist inquiries and responding to demands from leadership, thus testing an organization’s readiness for threats
Future enhancements of OpenBAS aim to include more precise technical event simulations and complex scenario creation, focusing on prevention, detection, and human response to improve security posture assessments
OpenBAS is available for free on GitHub, with all components offered as Docker images and manual installation packages.
