Google’s New Titan Security Key Adds Another Piece to the Password-Killing Puzzle – TECHOSMO>

Google has launched a new version of its Titan hardware authentication keys, designed to store passkeys directly on the device.
Passkeys are managed from a smartphone or laptop, but for those seeking an alternative, storing passkeys on a hardware token is now an option.
The new Titan keys can store over 250 unique passkeys and are intended to encompass the secure cryptography of passkeys on a portable piece of hardware.
Google plans to distribute 100,000 of the new Titan keys to high-risk individuals worldwide in 2024 as part of its Advanced Protection Program, which offers expanded account monitoring and threat protection.
While hardware authentication tokens provide unique protective benefits, they need to be rigorously secured to avoid introducing vulnerabilities, as was the case with a previous iteration in 2019.
Google has conducted an extensive internal security review on the new Titan keys and engaged external auditors to conduct independent assessments.
