Broadcom Merges Carbon Black with Symantec Focusing Security
Security Week
Broadcom has created a new Enterprise Security Group business unit to manage its cybersecurity portfolio after acquiring VMware (which owned Carbon Black) for $69 billion.
The new unit will combine network and data telemetry from Symantec’s products with the endpoint detection and response (EDR) technologies from Carbon Black.
Broadcom had previously acquired Symantec for $10\)7 billion in 2019\)
The goal is to enable greater visibility and control for customers by fusing Symantec’s data/network protection with Carbon Black’s EDR and application control products.
Initially, Broadcom will invest in R&D to improve and extend the life of the existing on-prem and cloud products from both companies.
The complementary technologies, like Symantec’s data center security and Carbon Black’s workload protection solutions, will better equip defenders.
For now, the Symantec and Carbon Black product portfolios will continue operating in their current states, backed by Broadcom’s financial stability.
The merger aims to leverage the strengths of both cybersecurity businesses to create tighter integration between network, data, and endpoint security capabilities.
