A day in the life of an MDR analyst: How we saved a firewall provider from disaster | SC Media

/ One day, I was on duty as a Managed Detection and Response (MDR) analyst with security operations for a global IT security company. It was the morning of the long-awaited new firewall installation for a health care provider customer. My company had been contracted out to take care of the installation in a large metropolitan city. >From my own experience, I knew that technical site surveys, which include a full assessment of the customer’s existing and in-place IT environment and security protocols, had already been completed. My team had worked hard for weeks prior to the day of the installation to ensure all the new systems were compatible and the installation went off without a hitch. We had identified potential vulnerabilities and built a plan to address them ahead of time. We thought we had it all down. But the morning of the installation we received news that we had not anticipated â the customer’s old firewall wasn’t playing ball. It was actively blocking our new systems from communicating with the existing ones. We were stuck. We knew we had to find a way to get the old firewall off and the new one installed.
