– Azizah Saffa
During a recent meeting in Thailand, key figures, including the Minister of Digital Economy and Society, presented the Royal Decree on Measures to Prevent and Suppress Technology Crimes B.E. 2566 (2023) to the House of Representatives. The agenda centered around implementing effective measures to prevent fraudulent activities related to horse accounts and money transfer transactions. The aim was to establish procedures that would allow authorities to track and trace illicitly acquired assets to the victims. The Royal Decree is intended to prevent and suppress technological crimes and ensure the safety and stability of the country’s economy. Thailand has also implemented the Cybersecurity Act to fortify its cybersecurity framework. This act establishes legal safeguards and measures to protect cyberspace security, including a cybersecurity risk assessment plan. The act allows the government to monitor and access digital data when cyber threats pose a risk to critical infrastructure. Private organizations in national security, finance, and public services must comply with the law’s code of conduct and cybersecurity standards. Thailand’s commitment to cybersecurity is evident through the introduction of IT Security services by the National Telecommunication Company (NT), aimed at enhancing system and equipment security for both government and private sector entities. The collaborative approach taken during the meeting reflects a comprehensive approach to tackling digital crimes, with technology playing a crucial role in safeguarding citizens and maintaining economic integrity in the digital era.
